If the hand tool nozzle does not have power it is not the thermal protector. Try to use your power nozzle for carpeting, if this works then it is just the hand nozzle. You need to replace this. If the power head nozzle does not have power then you need to take a multi-meter tester to the end of the wand and test to see if you have 110-120 volts. If you don't then disconnect the wand and test at the top of the hose where the wand connects. If you have power there, then replace your wand, if not then take the hose off and see if you have power to where the hose electricity plug in to the vacuum. If you have power there, then replace the hose. It is extremely rare for power to be out running though the vacuum itself. I also filmed a video for you to help you suss out where the problem is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICnsQ7zkpxc Let me know if you have any questions.
