While vacuuming today, i could not turn the Hoover vacuum off using the slide switch. It simply kept going whether I slid the switch up or down. I tried applying pressure while i did this, but it still did not turn off. Finally I just had to pull the plug. Any ideas what is going on? Thanks! (the vacuum is about 12 years old--could it be an age thing?)

This definitely sounds like your switch is broken. Good news is it''s a pretty simple fix. All you need to do is remove the upper handle assembly by removing two long screws that go into the back of the handle, and you''ll be able to see the switch after removing the handle assembly.

There are a few screws on the back of the switch housing that can be removed also, but you should be able to change the switch by putting a flat head screwdriver behind the screw and wedging out.

Hopefully this helps.
